FAQs
Can a person really be a member without paying money?
Yes! You can contribute just your time if that's what you have to give! You might provide help with admin tasks, setup/cleanup for events, or providing childcare, for example.
A healthy relationship, whether between people or in a community, is one of willing interdependence and cooperation. As a social species, the greatest strength we have is each other.
That said, our budget is what we as a group come up with, so, if you can, please do! The thing we need budget for the most is providing us with a comfortable third place to be together. We would love to have a permanent location.
Where did the ethical guidelines come from?
Back in 2005, when our founders were about to have their first child, they wanted as timeless and concise a set of guidelines for their children as they could come up with. Their community at the time was consulted and a list was created. Over the years, it was refined again and again, until it reached this final form in 2017.
Who are the founders?
Jenny and Tom Stamatakos, a couple of unique individuals just like everyone else. ;)
Is this for kids?
Only in that it is for human beings and kids are human beings. While we welcome families including their kids, we are primarily an organization for adults. Be sure to read our policy on children on the membership info page!
What’s a 501c7 nonprofit?
Most people are familiar with 501c3, so what’s the difference?
This link gives a clear explanation. As of this writing, we have not formally registered because we need a Board first, but it is our intention to incorporate as a 501c7 as soon as possible.
