Most social events are members and friends events, though many may be members only. Monthly meetings are always members only, followed by a members only social hour. Fundraisers and informational meetings are open to the general public, of course.

Only Members may vote or serve on the Board, Mediation Council, volunteer Executive Director or Childcare supervisor. Membership is included for paid staff.

Members joining in the first year of existence and remaining members for at least 6 months will receive a special Founding Member medal.

Member requirements:

Attend meetings regularly (at least 4 per year), volunteer even if you are paying for membership at least occasionally, pay your dues and agree to abide by the following ethical guidelines:

Carrying these qualities within you and striving towards them at all times is what shapes a good person and leads to a life well lived.

1. Empathy/Compassion/Love

2. Ethics/Integrity/Honesty

3. Curiosity/Inquisitiveness/Creativity

4. A Wide, Deep and Inclusive Sense of Perspective

5. Patience/Flexibility/Adaptability

6. Sense of Humor

7. Passion/Perseverance/Determination

8. Sufficiency/Contentment/Serenity

9. Efficiency/Moderation/Balance

10. Accountability/Reliability/Responsibility

11. Respect for and Balanced Consideration of Self and Others

12. Self-confidence with a Sense of Humility

Dues and contributions:

40 dollars ($480 annually) or a minimum of 4 hours labor per month (48 hours annually)

An organization needs both funds and labor and we seek to be as accessible as possible. Labor must serve current recognized needs as designated by the Executive Director. Examples of labor: setup, cleanup, childcare, admin assistance, and more.

Membership funds go to providing a meeting place (including a building fund) and supplies for events and, if possible, a paid executive director and childcare supervisor (pay should be a living wage for location, no more or less). Unneeded funds will go into a reserve fund.

We never want to be too financially dependent on any one person or handful of people, so large contributions (over $500) may be made only once every 3 years of membership and must remain anonymous.

Smaller contributions may be made on a spontaneous basis up to $500 a year in addition to membership fees. Note: Funds given to a 501c7 organization are not tax deductible.

This does not apply to fundraising events or specific philanthropic activities outside the membership.

Friends:

Not sure you want to be a member? Get to know us by coming to events open to members and friends. Don’t know a member? Try coming to an event open to the general public!

Children:

We recognize that childcare is hard to find or afford for most parents.

If members need to bring their children, unless we have a childcare supervisor or volunteers providing childcare, which we will strive for as often as possible, parents will have to ensure that their children are content and minimally disruptive or they will be expected to take the children home.

We ask child-free members to be tolerant and patient. All people, especially children, deserve our empathy and support. Small interruptions and the occasional cry or loud noise are part of life in a community. Little unicorns eventually become big unicorns!

Older children are welcome to participate and consider themselves "sidekicks", but we do not expect members to censor themselves for children unless it is specifically a children's event. Adult language and mature topics may come up, plan accordingly!

Members must be at least 18 years old.

Events involving intoxicants will be 21+ only.
